Ubisoft Enters Web3 Gaming with Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles

Ubisoft has announced that it is entering the Web3 gaming world for the first time with its long awaited game, “Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles”. Famous for games such as Just Dance, Far Cry, and Assassin’s Creed, the game developer is set to release the tactical RPG on October 23rd and will be accessible through the Oasys Layer-2 network, HOME verse.

Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles is Ubisoft’s first web3 game and it is scheduled to bring the immersive power of tactical role-playing games into the blockchain realm. This implies that the players will be in a position to take ownership of the digital assets, all while enjoying the intense and strategic PvP battles.

Since its announcement nearly a year ago at IVS Kyoto, Ubisoft has spent that time refining the game in a bid to make blockchain technology an invisible and essential part of the gaming experience. As such, Oasys and double jump.tokyo played such an important role in the game.

Nicolas Pouard, Vice President of Ubisoft’s Strategic Innovation Lab, expressed enthusiasm about the game, highlighting the lab’s commitment to leading innovation in player experiences. The goal with Champions Tactics is to integrate Web3 technology seamlessly, allowing players to focus on fun and strategy. By introducing the champion creation forge, Ubisoft aims to enhance gameplay and open new opportunities, reshaping the gaming experience for players.

Set in the dark, mystical world of Grimoria, Champions Tactics gives players the chance to build a team from 75,000 powerful Champions that have unique digital characters on the merit of their traits and abilities. With the game’s main feature revolving around assembling a squad of three Champions, players will be expected to engage in high-stakes player-versus-player battles.

The game’s Forge system further allows players to customize their Champions by combining the powers and abilities of different characters. This unlocks new traits that can turn the tide in battle. The end gal of this dynamic feature is to provide endless possibilities for customization and team optimization, which is in turn a crucial aspect in helping players to dominate the leaderboards.

Ubisoft’s move into Web3 gaming has already made waves evidenced by the company’s first 10K PFP collection, The Warlords, a major highlight of 2023, and its Champions Mint, which launched in July 2024, set new records in the space. What these two have managed to do is, they have secured a vast community that consists of over 100K followers on X and over 50K as well on Discord that is ready to see what the game holds for them

Sylvain Loe-Mie, the executive producer for the game, emphasized that Ubisoft’s focus remains on delivering a quality gaming experience. “We’re not trying to create another GameFi project. Our team is dedicated to building a deeply engaging and immersive game. We want to give players the freedom to own their assets and shape the future of the game.” Backed by a team with experience from titles like Assassin’s Creed and Heroes of Might & Magic, Ubisoft is combining their rich legacy with innovative elements to create something fresh and exciting for players.

In conjunction with Ubisoft is Oasys, a leading player in the blockchain gaming ecosystem that has played a huge role in bringing Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles to life. With its Layer-2 HOME verse which is designed to optimize blockchain-based games, players of Champions Tactics will enjoy the benefit of fast transactions together with smooth gameplay that comes with the collaboration.

Ryo Matsubara, Oasys’ representative director, also expressed excitement about the partnership, saying, “Ubisoft choosing to launch their first Web3 game on our platform is a significant milestone for us. The success of the earlier Warlords and Champions mints reflects the high level of interest in Champions Tactics, and we believe the full release will elevate Web3 gaming to a new level.”

Ubisoft’s entry into blockchain with Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles is a move that not only makes it a part of the blockchain world but in many ways helps to redefine it. The combination of tactical RPG elements, Web3 asset ownership, and blockchain-enabled player freedom that Ubisoft has managed to bring forth sets the stage for enhanced gameplay in both conventional and blockchain gamers.
